Wee Lassie 10' 6"
At 14 pounds, this is a canoe for almost all reasons (excepting big whitewater). Carrying it over long distances isn’t an issue and neither is loading or off-loading from your vehicle.  A junket to backwater ponds or lakes is a legitimate option.  Ask about our hands-free portage system; walk with your hands in your pockets if you like.
With depths options between 10” and 13”, the Wee Lassie offers generous capacity for paddler, gear, dogs and more.  Offering different depths is more than worth our effort in order to precisely match the canoe to your personal size and load requirements (there’s no charge for this custom process).
The hull is pleasantly maneuverable on the tiniest of streams yet it tracks extremely well on open water -- the glide will amaze you!  John Henry Rushton designed the canoe to be paddled with a double blade (kayak style) which offers many advantages:  easier control, greater speed, less fatigue . . . but some prefer a traditional canoe blade. The shallow V hull is high in initial and final stability for a canoe of 27” beam.  The stems are keen and exhibit some hollow with pretty curves that transition into the waterline.
The Wee Lassie combines the advantages of a kayak with the strong points of a canoe.  A blend of comfort, form and function designed to provide the ultimate paddling experience.

"First impressions of paddling this canoe will reveal the initial stability feeling just slightly tippy, but then secondary stability kicks in, and it feels very secure.  We recommend for bigger paddlers, particularly if the majority of your weight is on your upper half, to consider the Impulse or St. Regis instead. It's primary and secondary stability will be much more friendly towards you.  But if you are a typical mid-size (typical 200lbs or less) body weight-male or female, you will absolutely love the maneuverability and surprising speed this boat has to offer."

This shows the Kevlar/Carbon Hybrid laminate, it has slightly greenish tint. Sometimes the fish love it, sometimes they do not care.
The Innegra/Basalt/Kevlar/Carbon Hybrid laminate has a slightly grayish tint.  Fish seem to care less!

  • Laminates:  Kevlar,Carbon Hybrid Laminate is tough enough for most paddlers.
Innegra, Basalt, Kevlar, Carbon is a bit tougher.
  • Color:  See Color Chart page for selections.  We do not use gelcoat. While gelcoat does provide good color and some protection from scratching, we believe the added weight is not worth the slight increase in protection.  We pigment the resin which provides excellent UV protection and carries the color completely through the laminate.  Adding a color actually adds up to 3-4 lbs because of the extra layer.
  • Gunnels: Nothing looks or feels as good as wood.  Native cherry or ash are available at no additional charge.  Gunnel scuppers are standard.
  • Seating:  Standard kayak seat.
  • Flotation:  The Wee Lassie is produced without flotation.  All laminates will float if swamped but they will not support bodies or gear.  The canoe is produced without flotation to allow for triangular dry-storage flotation that many paddlers prefer.  Flotation is available (and recommended) as shown on the Options page.
  • Footrests: Adjustable footrests are standard.
  • Hull: The hull pops out of the mold at 13” deep.  It is trimmed to any depth you prefer (no charge) 10” is the depth originally designed by Rushton and is adequate for most paddlers.

The St. Regis was designed by Bart Hauthaway, who was inspired by the John Henry Rushton boats of similar size.
The St. Regis 12 is a pretty, comfortable, and stable design that tracks nicely yet responds well to steering strokes
Layup available are Carbon Fiber/Kevlar Hybrid, and also Innegra/Carbon/Kevlar H/D Hybrid for strength yet super light, and more forgiving on rock gardens.
The original molds being used to fabricate this canoe are unquestionably museum pieces made by Bart many, many years ago.  However, they are not what would be called “production tools” by the standards of modern lamination.  Our first thought was to rework the designs and build “production” quality molds.  But then, we contemplated the authentic and legendary value of such treasures and decided to build from the existing molds exactly as they came from Bart’s shop.  As a result, if you look closely, you’ll see a few tiny imperfections here and there on your canoe.  They are purely cosmetic and we feel they add to the romance and narrative -- the continuing saga of Bart Hauthaway, John Henry Rushton and the tale of the Woods Canoe and the St Regis.  There is nothing like paddling history!

Age is no paddling barrier.
Use a canoe paddle or kayak paddle!
The Impulse 13 is the answer for carrying larger loads than the Wee Lassie, paddling even faster and for cruising in more challenging conditions even loaded with fishing/camping gear.  The hull is a shallow V that exhibits excellent initial and final stability.  It paddles and glides with little effort; quiet, precise in tracking, maneuverable, seaworthy and capable of carrying significant loads.  The Impulse 13’ is a boat that you’ll want to paddle for the shear pleasure of skimming across the water. Great stability for fly fishing too!

Customize your boat with special seating, allowances for dogs, special deck engravings, gunnel species including: ash, cherry, mahogany, or cedar.  This model works well with hung web seating for those who are experienced, as well as kneeling thwart... and can be as contemporary or old school as you wish. You can also have the kayak type seat for a backup to the kneeling thwart or the hung seat... it's just a matter of simple hardware.  Just ask!

Lean entry lines, pretty curves fore and aft, attractive shear, wood outfitting . . .  synergy that produces a unique watercraft. Effortless cruising.  Superb tracking makes the Sportduo 13 an excellent choice for a thirty minute sunset paddle or day-long cruising, this canoe works best for paddlers under 6'.
The Sportduo 13 is not your typical tandem -- it’s quite responsive and quick while exhibiting stability that will inspire confidence for novice paddlers and comfort for those with experience.  Whether fishing, taking photos or stalking wildlife, the Sportduo tracks extremely well even at very slow speeds.  This translates into the ability to glide toward your objective (photo op, rising trout, etc.) without constant steering or paddle strokes that spook wildlife.
